• January 17: Warsaw is captured by Russians.
• February
  • February 7: Yalta Conference. Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin meet to discuss post-war objectives.
  • February 13-14: Dresden is bombed.
  • February 19-March 17: Battle of Iwo Jima. US Marines win a hard-fought victory on the Pacific island.

  • March 7: US and British forces cross the Rhine.
  • March 12: Henry Walton Jones, Senior writes a letter from England to his son Indiana Jones, which he receives later in Ireland.
  • March 23: Manila is freed.
  • Indiana Jones and his father are involved in the search of the Spear of Longinus.
• March-August: Indiana Jones passes these five months searching Gorsedd Arbeth in Wales.

  • April 1-June 21: Battle of Okinawa. The United States of America wins a decisive victory on Japan's home turf.

• May 8: V-E Day. Germany surrenders.
• May-August: Air offensive destroys the Japanese fleet and cripples industry.
• July 16: Atomic bomb is successfully tested at Los Alamos, New Mexico.

  • August 6: The USA drops the atomic bomb on Japan. The B-29 bomber Enola Gay drops "Little Boy", the first atomic bomb. on Hiroshima. An estimated two-thirds of the city destroyed and 140,000 dead from blast and radiation poisoning by year's end.
  • August 8: Russia invades Manchuria when Japan still refuses to surrender.
  • August 9: Three days after the bombing of Hiroshima, the Rock's Car drops "Fat Man" on Nagasaki. Half of the city is destroyed and 70,000 are killed.
  • August 14: V-J Day. Japan unconditionally surrenders.
  • August 14: A newspaper article is published regarding the expansion of Soviet Union.
• John Ford returns in Hollywood.
• Paul Robeson plays Othello in New York City.
• First manned rocket flight is attempted, but fails, killing its German pilot.
• First particle accelerator is invented.
• September 2: Formal Japanese surrender is signed aboard the USS Missouri. World War II ends.
• Japan rule over Korea ends.
• United Nations are formed. United Nations charter signed. Spain is denied entry because of totalitarian government.
• French put down nationalist uprising in Algeria.
• France occupies Vietnam and Cambodia.
• Airtight containers are introduced.
