The mechanism referred to in the historical note of the adventure guide/instruction booklet for Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is the Antikythera.[1] It would later be canonically introduced in the Indiana Jones franchise as the titular MacGuffin of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.[2]
