Behind the scenes[]
Following a meeting with Louise Simonson in New York City, Kerry Gammill was hired by Marvel Comics to serve as penciller for The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones after Gene Day's passing in 1982. He was originally slated to start his job at the series one month prior to the release of the "Africa Screams!" two-parter with the "Club Nightmare!" issue, but was told to wait one month to start most likely because of his slow process over getting the period settings and the character likenesses from Raiders of the Lost Ark right, which may have been Gammill didn't stay for so long in the series. To get the likenesses, which he found hard due to Harrison Ford's face not being stereotypically though or heroic, Gammill was given the folder full of stills and photographs from the film that either Paramount Pictures or Lucasfilm Ltd. supplied Marvel to use for the film's comic book adaptation. Looking back on the cover in 2012, Gammill disliked how he drew Indy's fedora despite liking to give Indy a speaking bubble, this being the only one in the series to feature in a cover. While Gammill's friend Sam De La Rosa inkered the issue, at one point he overcommitted himself so Jerry Ordway stepped in the middle of the comic book to ink three or four pages.[1]
