The sons of American trucker Al were two boys whose actions had added to the list of frustrations of their father in addition to getting a new job only to get fired from it and selling his house by 1993. One of them apparently was in drugs to the point his father thought he was a drug addict and the other one had dated at least two men, with his newest boyfriend having purple hair much to his father's annoyance. While drinking coffee at Mike's Roadhouse Restaurant, Al vented his frustrations to the elderly Indiana Jones after lashing out at Louise, with Jones initially mistaking Al's son in a relationship to be his daughter before he clarified his sex, so he opted to tell him about his experiences with Jiddu Krishnamurti in January 1910 about how important is to be kind to everyone.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Al's sons were only mentioned in Jonathan Hensleigh's teleplay for the bookends of the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles episode "Benares, January 1910".[1] In the finished episode, Al doesn't mention children, instead only complaining to the elderly Indiana Jones about his problems around his job and his house as his only source of frustrations that led him to lash out at Louise.[2]
Had the episode kept the mention to Al's sons, the one dating a purple-haired man would have possibly been the first explicit LGBTQIA+ character of the Indiana Jones franchise[1] before the debut of the closeted Father Cesare Ventura as well as the same-sex pairing of Dame Nawal Shafiq-Barclay and Laura Lombardi in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.[3]
