Amalgamated Fruit Industries was an American fruit company that farmed tropical fruits in Central America for export to the United States. They maintained a banana plantation in Palmar Sur, Costa Rica. Their operation in Palmar Sur contained several buildings and an airstrip, where mail and supplied could be delivered.
In 1941, Indiana Jones flew with Bert Brodowski to the AFI plantation in Palmar Sur while searching for recently discovered formation called "The Three Sisters". He hired a local laborer, Enrique, to be his guide. Later, Nichols, the Nazi agent masquerading as US Army intelligence, arrived to catch Jones, and stationed his men around the plantation.
