"Oh, that was 1984, and he's still more or less at the top of the villain heap. He's India's number one villain, certainly its richest villain."

Amrish Lal Puri (b. June 22, 1932 - d. January 12, 2005) was the actor who portrayed Mola Ram. After doing Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, he always shaved his head. Actor Roshan Seth, the actor who played Chattar Lal, commented that he was India's best villain.

Puri passed away in 2005 after suffering a brain hemorrhage at the age of 72.

  • Before being cast in Temple of Doom, both Puri and Roshan Seth had appeared together in the 1982 Richard Attenborough-directed Ben Kingsley film, Gandhi. Puri played South African-Indian businessman Abdulla Hajee Adab Jhaveri, who later became president of the Natal Indian Congress, while Seth, on the other hand, played Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • In his Mola Ram costume, Puri was stated to resemble Eduard Cannelli in Gunga Din.
