The ancient tablet was a stone tablet and a research project of Indiana Jones. The professor, who kept it in his office had translated part of the inscription on it, and the stone told of aliens in disguise.

The aliens are a possible reference to the evil Caponians from LucasArts game Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders. Literature by the Caponians and the Skolarians (another alien race from Zak McKracken) appear in the Biblioteca di San Barnaba, much to Indy's confusion. (needs clarification)
