The Arctic Ocean is the smallest of the five oceans on Earth, found in the northern polar region, and surrounded by North America, Eurasia and several islands. It connects to the Atlantic Ocean between Greenland, Iceland and Norway and to Pacific Ocean through the Bering Strait between Siberia and Alaska. Much of the ocean is covered by ice throughout the year, making ship passage difficult. The North Pole is located in the Arctic Ocean.

In 1936, Indiana Jones, Marcus Brody and Janice Le Roi traveled to the Arctic Ocean from the Bering Strait aboard a whaling ship, hoping to find an inlet on the northern coast of Siberia that would lead them to a spot near the Tomb of the Gods.
