After meeting with Indiana Jones in 1936, Major Eaton wrote to the archaeologist from Arlington to confirm government support of his pursuit of the object codenamed "Covenant Gold" but warned that the operation was not officially sanctioned meaning that the US would disavow any knowledge should Jones be captured or killed.
