Barbieri was a member of Father Orlando Ricci's revived Cult of Mithras operating below Rome, Italy. He had reached the first degree of initiation–the Corax–by the time archaeologist Indiana Jones disrupted the cult's activities on October 23, 1937 and their fraternal Pater was killed.[1]

As Father Orlando Ricci is the only cultist whose identity is explicitly shown on-screen in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Barbieri could be any one or none of the masked non-player characters (NPCs) that are encountered in its DLC story expansion "The Order of Giants".[1]
Barbieri also shares his surname with Alessandro Barbieri, a scholar referenced in the game who in turn has a name in common with a priest, potentially allowing for all three (or some combination thereof), each connected to Ricci in some form, to be the same person.[1]
