Around 1951, American archaeologist Indiana Jones found himself at the Shaw family home in Oxford, persuading friend and colleague British archaeologist Basil Shaw to hand over his half of the Antikythera, an ancient device. Since acquiring it in 1944, Basil had become obsessed over its ties to "temporal meteorology" and ability to detect fissures in time. Fearing what the completed device could do in the wrong hands, he tried to break it with a hammer. Frustrated with Shaw's unscientific conjecture but concerned over the historical significance, Jones persuaded Basil to hand it over, explaining that it belonged in a museum. Though Shaw agreed to part with the Antikhythera on the condition that Jones promised to destroy it, Jones didn't keep his word but stored it away within the archive of Hunter College.[1]
