In 1936, during the Nazi search for the Ark of the Covenant, an Arab servant attended to René Emile Belloq, the French archaeologist overseeing the dig, in his tent at Tanis.
Biography
In 1936, during the Nazis' search for the Ark of the Covenant at Tanis under the command of Colonel Herman Dietrich, the archaeologist René Emile Belloq utilized the services of an Arab man, who attended tom him at his tent, where Indiana Jones' partner Marion Ravenwood was being held captive.[1]
As there was no progress in finding the Well of the Souls, Belloq was sent to his tent to interrogate Ravenwood about her relationship with Jones. The servant made the necessary preparations for Belloq's arrival before retiring from the tent with the guard under Belloq's orders.[1]
Behind the scenes
Belloq's servant was played by an uncredited performer in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Though there is a debate whether Christopher Frederick played Otto or the Arab servant, Lucasfilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo has stated that he assumes that Frederick played either Otto or the servant, though it should be noted, thanks to the website Aveleyman.com, that Christopher Frederick's facial shape resembles more Otto than the servant.
