Benjamin "Ben" Burtt, Jr. (born July 12, 1948) is an American sound designer, film director, film editor, screenwriter and voice actor. As a sound designer, his credits include the Indiana Jones film series, the Star Wars franchise, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and WALL-E.
Burtt was the sound designer for the first four theatrical Indiana Jones films. He also worked on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles television series, writing and directing Young Indiana Jones and the Attack of the Hawkmen and working on the re-editing of the series into The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones.
Burtt is notable for popularizing the Wilhelm scream in-joke and creating many of the iconic sound effects heard in the Indiana Jones films. He was interviewed about his contributions to the films in the 2003 featurette The Sound of Indiana Jones.
