Bronisław Malinowski was a Polish anthropologist who spent many years studying western Pacific islanders. He is considered a pioneer in the field of anthropology, specifically ethnography. Indy met Malinowski when stranded on a Pacific island, where Malinowski convinced him to return to the US to start begin his schooling to become an archaeologist.
