He was sometimes referred to simply as "the Generalissimo". When Sun Yat-sen died in 1925, Chiang took control of the [[Kuomintang]] (KMT). To end the Warlord era and unify China, Chiang led nationalist troops in the Northern Expedition. He became the overall leader of the ROC in 1928. Chiang led China in the Second Sino-Japanese War, during which the Nationalist Government's power severely weakened, but his prominence grew. During the civil war after the [[Japan|Japanese]] surrender in 1945, he attempted to eradicate the Chinese Communists but ultimately failed, forcing his KMT government to retreat to Taiwan, where he continued the struggle against the communist regime. Serving as the President of the Republic of China and Director-General of the KMT, Chiang died in 1975.

Chiang Kai-Shek was the Chinese military and political leader who led the national government of China from 1928 to 1947, and the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to 1975. In the 1930's, he was the military leader of the Kuomintang, the Chinese nationalist party, and served as President of the Republic of China at various times. He led the Chinese against the Japanese in the Second Sino-Japanese War, starting in 1937, but also sent forces to remove the warlords controlling various provinces of China.

Biography[]

Singer Willie Scott claimed to have been a personal dinner guest of Chiang Kai-Shek.

In 1938, Chiang Kai-Shek's forces had already taken control of the warlord U Paw's province, earning her emnity. When she returned from looting Chanri-Ha, she discussed her hatred of Generalissimo Chiang, whom Indiana Jones had believed was a hero unifying China. Later in their adventures, U Paw commandeered a train containing some of Chiang's army, and killed Captain Lao-Tsing. After failing to recover the Covenant of Buddha, U Paw decided to let her fight against Chiang wait until after she had helped drive out the Japanese invaders.
