Coiled Wriggiles with its interior of eels.

Coiled Wrigglies[1] (also known as "Snake Surprise") was a dish served at the Guardian of Tradition Dinner given at Pankot Palace in 1935,[2] as the second course. It was live baby eels stuffed inside a moist[1] steaming poached boa constrictor.[3] While Willie Scott and Short Round were disgusted upon seeing the interiors of the meal,[4] which appeared to smiling back,[5] one of the guests at the dinner, a merchant, was very pleased when the dish was served. Another guest enjoyed the eels with great gusto.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

In James Kahn's novelization of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the Snake Surprise platter as described as being a steaming poached boa constrictor with a garnish of fried ants.[3] Such statement would incorrect as boa constrictors are native from South America, not India, unless the snake served was imported. In the Marvel Comics' comic book adaptation, the dish is depicted to be much more smaller[6] that seen in the film.[2]

Indiana Jones: The Ultimate Guide identifies the snake used in the dish as a python instead of a boa constrictor.[7]
