Indiana Jones Wiki

"Connectors" is the terminology used by Lucasfilm Ltd. for the bridging footage shot for The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones to rework the episodes of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles television show into features for home video release. Most of the reworked chapters tied together two episodes of Chronicles into one feature-length story.

Connectors

Stand-ins for Pierre, Indy, and Helen briefly appear in new connecting footage shot for My First Adventure.

Many chapters only needed brief transitional scenes to open the story or connect the storylines of the two individual episodes, while others required more substantial additions to form a cohesive whole with balance runtimes.[1] Jonathan Hales was chiefly responsible for scripting the new scenes, working closely with George Lucas to ensure continuity.[2] Ben Burtt, Mike Blanchard, and others from Lucasfilm's JAK Films worked on the re-shoots and re-editing required for the series from 1995 to 1998.[3][4][5]

With enough budget leftover from The Family Channel's four tie-in movies, a pair of previously unfinished episodes were completed specifically for the repackaging: "Tangiers, July 1909" and "Morocco, 1917", newly-produced for the chapters My First Adventure and Tales of Innocence, respectively. The unfinished "Princeton, May 1919" episode—parts of which had been used as bookends for the TV movie Young Indiana Jones: Travels with Father—was also completed for Winds of Change. Meanwhile Daredevils of the Desert was expanded from the original "Palestine, October 1917" episode with a combination of newly shot scenes and licensed footage (including scene from the Australian war film The Lighthorsemen which was also directed by Simon Wincer) to create a feature-length adventure.[6] Much of the new material was shot in Arizona during production of the Star Wars Special Editions, using the same desert to stand-in for Tangiers, Morocco, and Beersheba.[7]

The connector scenes for My First Adventure, bridging the first half of The Curse of the Jackal with the newly-produced "Tangiers, July 1909" story, were shot in Tunisia on August 11, 1997, during the production of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, with Joseph Bennett and Vic Tablian returning to reprise their roles and doubles playing the parts of Pierre, Indy, and Helen. Terry Jones returned to film a short scene as Marcello to bridge the two stories in Espionage Escapades.

Due to the two conjoined episodes and the connector segments sometimes being filmed as much as five years apart, noticeable continuity issues with the appearance of characters occasionally arise—particularly evident with Corey Carrier, whose rapid growth during adolescence made the age discrepancies more apparent between adjacent scenes and additional voice overs included in the same chapter.
