Cuzco is a city in Peru. It was the capital of the Inca empire, and in it were many temples and palaces, including the Temple of the Sun, which was completly covered with a thin layer of gold leaf. In 1534, the illiterate conquestador, Francisco Pizarro. He wrote: "This city is the greatest and the finest ever seen in this country or anywhere in the Indies... We can assure your Majesty that it is so beautiful and has such fine buildings that it would be remarkable even in Spain." There is an abundance of indigenous people there. It's main attraction is Machu Picchu, which lies near the city.
