The Demon's Tomb was located in the Khmer Vault of Sukhothai which held the ancient remains of a giant.
History[]
The Khmer people of Sukhothai, Siam once encountered a giant individual. Fearful that it was a supernatural being, they killed the man and entombed him with an idol that they thought was cursed. To prevent the "demon" from ever escaping the underworld, an extensive network of traps was constructed in a subterranean temple known as the Khmer Vault.[1]
Around 1937, Doctor Annika Lund sought out the idol and was unexpectedly reunited with her old archaeology professor Indiana Jones who had been drawn to the site by an explosion created to access the vault. Their discovery of the Demon's Tomb was, in part, through sheer luck. The pair accidentally triggered the vault's defenses when they opened a giant sarcophagus in a fake version of the tomb and as the sealed chamber began to flood, a wall collapsed while Jones looked for an exit and the two adventurer were suddenly carried by the waters and washed up closer to the actual tomb. Once they bypassed an extensive set of locks on the Demon's Tomb, Lund recovered the Idol of Yaksha from the remains of its mortal occupant.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Demon's Tomb appears as part of the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle video game.[1] Its name, however, was publicized on social media ahead of the release.[2]
