Dionysus was the god prayed to by King Midas to be granted his wish of a golden touch.
Behind the scenes[]
The son of Zeus and his mortal lover Semele, Dionysus was the god of wine, parties, theatre and ecstasy. He was said to inspire creativity in mortals, and the art of theatre began as dedication to him. In legends, he was often accompanied by the god Pan and the Maenads, a group of deranged priestesses, who killed animals and children.
