Dufourspitze is the highest mountain between Switzerland and the Pennine Alps as well as the second-highest mountain of the Swiss Alps and Western Europe.
British soldier George McHale made a trip to the mountain in 1934 and uncovered in a cave there a set of the late Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci's long-lost mirror-writing notebooks, which ended up there after the thieves who stole them hid somewhere between Switzerland and Italy and had a falling out that got them killed, arrested and executed with the location vanishing with them. American archaeologist Indiana Jones, who went on to befriend McHale by World War II, had heard about the event on Dufourspitze by 1943.[1]
