Circus train

Circus train

The Dunn & Duffy Combined Circus was a traveling circus. Its train was passing through Utah in 1912, over the rails of the Pueblo & Chama Railroad. The circus train featured cars carrying reptiles, a lion, a rhinoceros, two giraffes and a magician's caboose.[1]

Having heard that the circus was coming to Utah sometime before his visit to the state's caverns,[2] Indiana Jones hopped on to try to escape from Fedora's Gang when he had the Cross of Coronado.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

In Rob MacGregor's novelization of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, a additional scene depicts young Indiana Jones encountering a number of circus performers, including an overweight woman, into whose cleavage Indy falls into.[3] In Les Martin's junior novelization, a similar scene occurs, with a rotund bearded lady.[4]

In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure, Indy's adventures in Utah are summed up in the opening credits as Boy Scout Indy crosses over the circus train cars bearing the game credits. The cars bear the logo "Lucasfun", instead of "Dunn & Duffy Combined Circus".[5]

In the first installment of the Young Indiana Jones and the Plantation Treasure comic, panel 3 is a flashback[6] to when Garth gave Indy his fedora, as seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.[1] However, the scene is depicted as taking place on top of the circus train,[6] when it actually took place inside the Jones residence in (Antonito, Colorado) Moab, Utah.[1]
