- "Search where Dionysius hears each whisper like a hurricane."
- ―Indiana Jones, translating the Grafikos[src]
The Ear of Dionysius is a cave near city of Syracuse, on the island of Sicily in Italy. Its name comes from its similarity in shape to the human ear as well as the echoes in the cave.
History[]
In 1969, led by the Grafikos, Indiana Jones and Helena Shaw journeyed to the Ear of Dionysius to find Archimedes' hidden tomb which held the second half of the Antikythera. The cave was partially under restoration when Jones and Shaw visited and the pair scaled the interior. However, the aging Indy struggled, reflecting to Helena that he had been shot nine times, including once by her father. Later, Doctor Jürgen Voller and his Neo-Nazi associates followed them into the cave to access the artifact.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
While the the Ear of Dionysius is a real place, much of its interior in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was a set built on Stage 7 of Pinewood Studios.[2]
