Easter Island is a remote Polynesian island notable for its Moai statues. It is part of the country of Chile. Easter Island is also called Isla Pascua in Spanish, Rapa Nui by its islanders, as well as Te Pito o Te Henua (the Navel of the World), and Mata Ki Te Rangi (Eyes that Look to the Sky).
Adventures on Easter Island[]
Indiana Jones visited Easter Island on more than one occasion.
In 1929, he joined an expedition on the island, digging in a different place than the main team. The local archaeologist Davina invited him to meet with the Matuans. He would be allowed to view the sacred Rongo-rongo tablets to translate them and share the island's history with the world and answer the mysteries surroundin the moai statues. However, Jones took off to accompany Marcus Brody in searching for the missing Hans Beitelheimer, but hoped to return.[1]
He returned to Easter Island in 1934 while trying to recover the Totem of the Ages before the Man wth the Silver Eye. When Jones and his Adventure Society companion arrived, they found that Silver Eye had conducted an extensive dig.[2]
