Himself the seventh born son of a man who was likewise the seventh born among his siblings,[2] Sallah went on to have numerous children, but by 1936, he and Fayah had decided to no longer have any more after their ninth born,[3] though Sallah would claim later that same year that he had sired "fourteen sons".[4] Although the el-Kahir family was originally settled in Egypt, they emigrated to the United States of America during World War II, with Sallah finding work as a taxi driver.[5]
