Elstree Studios is a British film and television production facility in Borehamwood, England.
Considered a good luck charm for George Lucas, Elstree's sound stages were used for both the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies throughout the 1980s. Having formed a good working relationship with Elstree through A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, and appreciative of the relatively low cost of shooting there, Lucas convinced Steven Spielberg to film Raiders of the Lost Ark at Elstree over the director's assumption that the production would have utilized the more famous Pinewood Studios.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) was the first Indiana Jones movie not to film at Elstree, with very little of the picture itself shot outside of mainland USA and Hawaii.
