Enrico Caruso was an opera singer.

The gangster Emil Marko owned an original wax recording of Caruso's rendition of La Traviata which was his prize possession, a fact Marion Ravenwood took advantage of in 1936 when she confronted the gangster by holding the recording at gunpoint.

By 1938, the Biblioteca di San Barnaba in Venice, Italy contained a plaque quoting Caruso as having said of the library: "It is idyllic here, but everyone tells me to hush!"
