The Fates were said to be three old women from the Far East given the gift of a crystal eye by the Greek gods to see the fate of everyone and everything.

In 1937, Indiana Jones recovered the shield of Perseus off the Greek coast which contained a fragmented message by Perseus claiming that he "stole the Eye from the three women of Hokk—". Suspecting the broken word could refer to the Japanese island of Hokkaido, Jones used the shield as the first clue to finding the artifact.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The Fates were not envisioned as blind in mythology as per Indiana Jones and the Eye of the Fates. Being blind and sharing a single eye is an attribute that fits another triad in Greek mythology, the Graeae, who were unrelated.
