Flanders is a region in the north of Belgium.
In May 1916, during World War I, Indiana Jones enlisted in the Belgian Army. His company, the 9th Belgian Infantry, fought at Flanders where they suffered heavy losses which took out all their officers including Captain Cote (though for a time Jacques was suspected of murdering him) which led to the remaining troops being absorbed into the French 14th Company at the Battle of the Somme in August.[1]
