As a British diplomat, Peregrine Prentiss was an employee of the Foreign Office. Sometime while serving as a diplomat, Prentiss took a crash course in Balkan history from Helen Seymour, but ended up being assigned to Egypt instead of the Balkans by the Foreign Office.

Founded in 1782, the Foreign Office to cover the foreign affairs of the kingdom. In 1968, the Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Office were merged into one agency: the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
