Francisco Vásquez de Coronado was a Spanish conquistador and explorer.

Biography[]

In 1520, Coronado was given a jewel-encrusted golden crucifix by fellow Spanish conquistador, Hernando Cortés. This crucifix, the Cross of Coronado, was proof that Cortés sent Coronado in search of the Seven Cities of Gold.[1]

Panama Hat owned a vessel named after Coronado, the Vasquez de Coronado.[2] After Indy reclaimed the Cross from him, he wondered if maybe the ship's namesake got his revenge on the thieves who stole his Cross.[3]
