Francisco Vásquez de Coronado was a Spanish conquistador and explorer.
Biography[]
In 1520, Coronado was given a jewel-encrusted golden crucifix by fellow Spanish conquistador, Hernando Cortés. This crucifix, the Cross of Coronado, was proof that Cortés sent Coronado in search of the Seven Cities of Gold.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, holding the Cross of Coronado, can briefly be seen in the introduction to the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade segment of LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues.[2] Coronado's LEGO likeness the was based on a 1984 painting of the conquistador by artist Bill Ahrendt for a copy of the magazine Arizona Highways.
