The French Private was a French soldier, who served in the 2nd Army under General Robert Nivelle at the Battle of Verdun during World War I.

Behind the scenes[]

Petr Meissel played the role of the French Private in the episode "Verdun, September 1916" of the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

It is not entirely clear which role in "Verdun, September 1916" is that of the French Private. The most likely candidates are these roles with speaking lines:

  • Nicole's husband, the soldier who gives Indiana Jones a box of his momentos, including a photo of his wife, prior to the first charge.
  • The wounded French soldier in no man's land, whom Jones encounters on his way to the German command bunker.
  • The French soldier who gives Major Gaston a casualty count after the first charge.
  • The French soldier who points Jones in the direction of Colonel Barc's bunker on Jones' first assignment.
