Fynn Völler was the younger brother of the German archaeologist Magnus Völler and son of Rudolf.
Biography[]
In 1939, Fynn Völler was brought by his brother Magnus to Istanbul during the Nazi effort to retrieve the Staff of Kings for Adolf Hitler, entrusting him to watch the captive Margaret Grace O'Malley. As he prepared to toast with several European diplomats, he realized that for of his dedication and reliability, Fynn was no match for American archaeologist Indiana Jones, who Magnus expected who launch a rescue attempt. Deeming his younger brother as too soft, Magnus directed a guard to turn off the cistern's engine to kill Jones and O'Malley, having decided that the reluctant Fynn wouldn't be able to carry out the execution. In the end, however, Jones and O'Malley managed to escape.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Fynn Völler only appears in Rob MacGregor's unpublished novelization of the Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings video game, as a means to expand on the background of Magnus Völler.[1] The game itself has no references at all to Völler's relatives nor an indication that any of the Nazis who accompanied Völler to Istanbul was his brother,[2] and given how Indycron keeper Leland Chee stated during an interview with TheRaider.net in 2010 that a copy of MacGregor's completed manuscript never never reached him,[3] it's unclear how much, if any, information about Fynn Völler is part of the Indiana Jones canon.
