George Washington (February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799) was an American political leader, military general, statesman, and Founding Father who served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797.
Biography[]
Once George Washington stated that no joy be derived from an enemy's misfortune.[2]
Legacy[]
Other foreign leaders like Barthélemy Boganda,[3] Sun Yat-sen[4] and Simon Bolivar were compared to Washington for their respective countries.[5]
Indiana Jones displayed a hanged effigy of George Washington and other Founding Fathers at the University of Chicago during his studies there as a prank: a representation of his paper, "The Nature of American Patriots and Traitors", and in protest of Dr. Mallery Mulhouse's mandated requirement that English and history students celebrate Founding Fathers Day, a holiday of his own invention. However, Jones's intent was misconstrued and the act almost got him kicked out of the institution.[6]
