- "It's no coincidence that these German spies are here seeing as Magnus is here as well."
- ―Indiana Jones[src]
The German secret agents were an elite group of German spies sent to around the world in 1939 to help Magnus Völler recover the Staff of Kings. Indiana Jones battled with these men a few times while searching for the same artifact.
History[]
In 1939, Indiana Jones visited Istanbul to search for a Shepherd, a marker that showed the location of the Staff of Kings, that was hidden somewhere in Topkapi Palace. While there Indy found and fought many agents inspecting the palace. The agents had no respect for the artifacts in the palace, using them for target practice. They were well equipped, armed Luger P08s and MP-40s. They also had a few cars with them as well. There were three varieties of them;
- Grunts: These men made up the majority of this unit. They wore black suits with white shirts and black ties. They used whatever weapons they could find, often using chair legs and even museum artifacts like maces and sometimes used Luger P08s but they mostly fought with their fists. They would sometimes duck from incoming objects.
- Gunners: These men had better combat skills than there weaker counterparts and were also not as common as them. They wore the same suits but with red ties, black fedoras, black gloves and shades. They could block some light attacks and could avoid being grappled. They used whatever weapons they could find, often using chair legs and even museum artifacts like maces and often used MP-40s.
- Brutes: These were physically imposing men who wore similar uniforms to the grunts and gunners with black suits, white shirts, black ties, black gloves and shades. They were often used by Magnus as personal body guards. Indy never got to fight them directly but did see them in Chinatown, San Francisco and Istanbul.
The agents were no match for Jones who defeated many of them as he went through the palace. Indy and Maggie used an elephant to escape Istanbul, they were pursued by gunners in cars however they failed to stop the pair from escaping.
Behind the scenes[]
The German secret agents are only appear in Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings for the PS2 and Wii. There is no equivalent for them on the DS as there is no section in those games that take place in Istanbul (Instead there is one in Paris with regular German Soldiers) however German men in suits do appear on the Odin in the final section of the game but are not specified as German secret agents. On the PSP there are soldiers in shirts and suspenders and overcoats in Istanbul referred to as Nazi Spies (in the credits) but are accompanied by regular soldiers and are also not specified as German secret agents.
Dirk Meyer, Christian Mey, Jens Münchow, Torsten Münchow and Michael Schernthaner provided their voices for the agents.
The German secret agents are a fictional unit but likely based on the Gestapo.
