In 1938, Giacomo Andrini encountered Indiana Jones and his young cousin while the pair were vactioning in Venice, Italy. He invited them back to his shop so Jones could unlock a box he'd collected containing one of the lost diaries of Marco Polo.

As his actions are influenced by the reader's decisions, there is no definitive canonical storyline for Giacomo Andrini beyond the first few pages when the multiple story strands begin to appear. One version reveals Andrini is a Italian Fascist sympathizer which alters his friendly rivalry with Indiana Jones.
