Giza, also spelled Gizeh, is a city located in Egypt which lay along the Great Circle.
The Great Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was built there along with the Great Sphinx and other sites of antiquity which represent the Ancient Egyptian culture as a cradle of civilization.
In the late 1930s, a smaller settlement was situated on the outskirts of the city proper.
History[]
Having already foiled a Nazi excavation a year prior at nearby Tanis; in 1937, Indiana Jones discovered that the Third Reich had launched a dig in Giza during the archaeologist's investigation of the Great Circle.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- "Indiana Jones has an incredibly rich lore with movies, comic books, games and more that we could dig into and use in different ways, not only for immersing the player in Indy’s world, but also to connect the different stories and characters. In this regard, our great working relationship with Lucasfilm Games helped us enormously."
- ―Indiana Jones and the Great Circle lead narrative designer Tommy Tordsson Björk on how the game adapts the 1930s faithfully.[src]
Giza being referred by its more ancient name "Gizeh" in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was credited by Xbox Wire as part of lead narrative designer Tommy Tordsson Björk's description of the research MachineGames did to accurately depict the 1930s in the game.[5]
