Haiti is a small country, located on the west half of the island of Hispaniola, in the Caribbean Sea. It borders the Dominican Republic, and is across the Windward Passage from Cuba. Haiti is one of the least developed countries in the Americas. The primary languages of Haiti are French and Creole, and voodoo is one of the dominant religious systems practiced in the country.

Originally discovered by the Spanish in 1492, it was eventually settled by the French and their African slaves. In 1791, after a slave rebellion, the country became the second in the Western Hemisphere to declare its independence. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the country suffered from several coups, and foreign intervention. From 1915 to 1933, the country was under the military occupation of the United States of America.

Adventures in Haiti[]

In 1943, while on a break from their wartime duties, Indiana Jones and George McHale traveled to Haiti in search of the Heart of Darkness, a large black pearl. Crash landing in the Windward Passage, they washed ashore, and made their way to Port-au-Prince, where they hired Marie Arnoux to take them to Zile Muri-yo. They were followed two sets of enemy forces, Edwin Gruber and his Nazi troops, and Yamada Hajime and his Japanese soldiers, seeking the secrets of invincible troops. On Zile Muri-yo, they discovered a third threat, the powerful voodoo priest Boukman, and his army of zombis. Eventually, Jones and McHale found the pearl, but were forced to trade it to Boukman for Arnoux's release. Arnoux, herself a voodoo practitioner, harnessed the power of the pearl, and defeated Boukman, and Jones and McHale left Haiti with the drained artifact.[1]
