Hernando Cortés (or Hernán Cortés) was a Spanish conquistador.

Biography[]

In 1520, Cortés gave a jewel-encrusted golden crucifix to fellow Spanish explorer, Francisco Vásquez de Coronado. This crucifix, the Cross of Coronado, was proof that Cortés sent Coronado in search of the Seven Cities of Gold.[1]
