Hiroshima is a Japanese city located on the nation's largest island, Honshu.
During World War II, Hiroshima was a major shipbuilding center but on August 6, 1945, the B-29 bomber Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb, "Little Boy", on the city. It destroyed an estimated two-thirds of Hiroshima with 140,000 dead from the blast and radiation poisoning by the year's end.
