Honduras is a country in Central America, bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador and by Nicaragua to the southeast.
Honduras was a center of Mayan civilization conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century. In the 1930s, coups were are regular occurrence.

Indiana Jones was to meet René Emile Belloq for the first time in Honduras in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles television series but the show was cancelled before the episode "Honduras, December 1920" was produced.[1]
In 1995, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade writer Jeffrey Boam claimed that Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg would probably wish to shoot some of the fourth Indiana Jones film in Honduras for one week on location.[2]
