Igor Vasily was a White Russian intelligence agent who worked alongside Indiana Jones in Istanbul in 1918.
Biography[]
Vasily worked with Indiana Jones and several other Allied spies, attempting to secure a separate peace with Turkey, through a possible agreement with Turkish General Mustafa Kemal. Things became more complicated, when Indiana learned of the existence of a double agent, known as the "Wolf", within their ranks, who wanted the red document that the Allies had written for General Kemal (which would have branded Kemal a traitor, if it would fall into the wrong hands). Indiana theorized that anyone in their group could be the Wolf. He speculated that Vasily might not actually be a White Russian (a member of the anti-communist movement), that Vasily claimed to be, but a Leninist (an allegation that Vasily took as a grave insult). Not being able to trust anyone, Indiana isolated himself from the group (and hid the red document).
The next day, Vasily sought out Indiana at his apartment, and asked Indiana if he still had the red document (claiming that headquarters wanted to know). Vasily told Indiana that he would need help in all of this, and that he could trust him. However, Indiana showed Vasily the door. In the end, Vasily turned out to be innocent of being the double agent.
When Indiana was getting re-assigned to American Intelligence, Vasily kept him company while Indiana was packing. He told Indiana that he should not go, and that he had a dream about Indiana the night before. In the dream, Indiana was in a place surrounded by water. The water turned to blood, which Indiana drowned in. Next, Indiana had emerged from the blood. His eyes were open, but he was dead. Indiana dismissed Vasily's dream. Upon realizing that Indiana is going to Venice, Vasily warned him that Venice is only a beautiful city on the outside (on the inside, the city's heart was rotten). He told Indiana that evil awaited him in Venice.
