Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings is a video game currently under development by LucasArts for the Nintendo DS, PSP, PS2 and Wii. Previously, the game was said to be in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well, but recent sources say otherwise, but may still be in development for release at a later date. Set to be released in Spring of 2009, the game is the first of the franchise to be made under the direction of Indiana Jones creator George Lucas.

Overview

At this point, details regarding the game's plot is largely unknown, but what has been revealed is that the game will take place in 1939, following Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and will involve Indiana Jones searching for his former mentor Charles Kingston. Locations include Panama and San Francisco.

Rumors suggest a return of Lao Che from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. In the trailer for the game, there is a sign on a wall promoting "Lao Che Cocktails", giving possible truth to the speculation. Added to this is the information revealed in the The Ultimate Guide confirming the game will partly be set in San Francisco's Chinatown area as mentioned in the trailer.

Behind the scenes

The game will feature "Euphoria", an advanced physics engine designed to make objects and characters react in real-time instead of relying on the tradition of preset animations.

The release date of the game was first announced as 2007 before being pushed back to 2008. It was delayed again till 2009 to avoid conflicting with the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, another significant LucasArts project involving George Lucas.

In late January 2009, a trailer for the game was released on the internet, confirming a release date for "Spring 2009" for the Wii, Nintendo DS, and Playstation platforms. Earlier sources, such as a published ESRB rating for Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings have the PlayStation platform as the PSP, but a PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360 version may be released at a later date, as the game was originally announced to be exclusively for next-generation systems.

On LucasArts official mini site for the game, it was revealed that a PS2 release was included for release in Spring 2009.
