Synopsis[]
In 1931, an ancient artifact was discovered in a mine north of Norilsk by Henrik Mellberg, Francis Beresford-Hope, and Marwell O'Brien.
In 1936, Indiana Jones received a letter and a key from Henrik Mellberg and travels to his Manhattan apartment. Unfortunately, some Nazi agents were waiting there for Mellberg and captured Jones and attempted to interrogate him, using Mellberg's pet cobra. When interrupted by a maid, Jones turned the tables on his captors. During the fight, Jones was thrown into a bookcase, which turned out to be a fake wall, leading to Mellberg's hiding place. Mellberg led Jones to a rooftop escape, and told Jones about the need to keep the three pieces of the key from the hands of the Ahnenerbe, the ancestral heritage branch of the Nazi SS. Mallberg suspected that O'Brien's piece has already fallen to the Nazis, and that Beresford-Hope's piece must not be found by them.
While fleeing across a skyscraper construction site, Mellberg was shot by the Nazi agents and passed his quest and his piece of the artifact onto Jones. Jones escaped through the construction elevator, where the maid pulled a gun on him and took the piece, claiming to be working for herself.
Jones and Marcus Brody flew to Tibet to find Beresford-Hope, an old acquaintance of Brody's and his third piece. Led to a hillside cave where the "crazy Englishman" was said to live, they found that walls and ceilings of the cave were covered with drawings and writings of a madman. While they were puzzled with this discovery, an unknown attacker threw a bundle of dynamite into the cave...
