Jack Anders was an officer in the Australian Light Horse Brigade.
Biography[]
While on an 'ornithology' expedition with Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen and Indiana Jones in 1917, Jack Anders unwittingly helped Meinertzhagen conduct his "haversack ruse."[1]
That led to the successful invasion of Beersheba, in which Anders and his men led a successful and surprising charge when they remained mounted like cavalry instead of behaving like the mounted infantry they were. His friend Dex was killed during the charge, but his horse was the first to make it over the German lines. Anders thought Dex would have enjoyed that fact. Anders and his horse, Phyllis, made it through the battle and were able to obtain some much needed water thanks to the work of Indiana Jones.[1]
