Jamal was a purveyor of antiquities and interior decorator who Indiana Jones hired to supply some of the decor for Marion Ravenwood's New York City nightclub, The Raven's Nest.

Biography[]

Jamal ran an antiquities store out of Greenwich Village in Manhattan. In 1935, the police discovered that illegal artifacts were being held at his store. Jamal's possession of them was a misunderstanding that had come about through an unlikely set of circumstances but archaeologist Dr. Indiana Jones vouched for him.[1]

A year later, out of gratitude, Jamal agreed to supply the decor for The Raven's Nest nightclub of Jones's friend and partner Marion Ravenwood. However, in the months since running afoul of the law, Jamal's business had struggled and so he resorted to crime to cover his finances. With his store under close surveillance by the authorities, he instead smuggled artifacts into the club hidden within the aesthetics.[1]

A series of incidents at the establishment soon made it appear that someone was trying to prevent Ravenwood from opening the club. At first, Jones and Ravenwood suspected that local crime boss, Emil Marko, was undermining their efforts but an investigation turned their suspicions onto Jamal. He eventually confessed and revealed that after recovering the artifacts, he intended to destroy The Raven's Nest to bury the evidence of his smuggling with Marko taking the blame. Jamal and Jones got into a brawl which started a fire that quickly spread. Jones and Ravenwood escaped to safety, but explosives planted by Jamal detonated, consuming the club and killing Jamal as he attempted to salvage some of his pieces from the flames.[1]
