Jimmy "Quick Shift" Keegan was a teenager in Nevada, 1957. On leaving the Atomic Cafe in a '32 Ford Roadster, Keegan was goaded by his friends into racing a military convoy they discovered driving through the desert. Suzie was Keegan's girlfriend.
Biography[]
Jimmy Keegan was an American teenager who, in 1957, was a couple of years younger than an "American soldier" called "Sgt. Franklin".[2] That same year, on leaving the Atomic Cafe,[3] Jimmy Keegan, his girlfriend Suzie and his friends Tommy Shiner and Lindy came across a military convoy on the road after running over a prairie dog's home.[1]
Goaded on by his companions, Jimmy raced the lead staff car driven by a "Sgt. Franklin" in his '32 Ford Roadster before simply driving on, firm in the belief that his opponent could not match the speed of his vehicle when the convoy had to make the turnoff to a distant military base. The teens went on their merry way, never suspecting that the "American" soldiers were actually Russian soldiers.[1]
Personality and traits[]
A joyridding youth with shouts bright enough to echo across the Nevada desert,[3] Jimmy Keegan was a teenager who enjoyed racing and showing off to his fellows by driving his car as fast as he could. He seemed pretty careless towards others, given how he ran over a prairie dog's home, barely avoiding the animal.[1] He was extremely competitive, deeming a "minor win" worth it no matter how insignificant like when he goaded "Franklin" to beat him in a drag race that the soldier had to call off by turning around to his destination.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Jimmy Keegan was portrayed by an uncredited Adam Kirley in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.[1]
While appearing in James Rollins' novelization and James Luceno's junior novel,[3][2] Jimmy Keegan and his friends are absent from comic book adaptation by Dark Horse Comics where the race between the Soviets and the American teenagers is omitted, with the story starting with the Soviet arrival to Hangar 51.[4]
In LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, Jimmy Keegan and his friends are also left out. Instead, their role during the desert opening sequence is fulfilled by an unnamed ice-cream man, who feeds the Soviet soldiers.[5]
