Joe the Archaeologist was the pulp adventure star of the Strange Aeons comic book who journeyed around the globe armed with little more than a throw net and slingshot.
Its first issue was found lying around Woolley Hall at Marshall College by ProfessorIndiana Jones in October 1937. On seeing the cover, Jones—an archaeologist himself and perhaps not quite appreciating how close his own lifestyle was to Joe's—called comic books a new fad around campus.
