The Committee for State Security, officially known as the Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti or KGB, was the national security agency of the Soviet Union which served as the country's secret police and espionage service from 1954 to 1991.
Background[edit | edit source]
After World War II, Joseph Stalin had directed the Committee for State Security to develop programs and experiment with the unknown potential of the human mind. Irina Spalko was handpicked by Stalin to oversee psychic warfare research. Spalko also served in the Committee for State Security's Science and Technology Directorate. Spalko's work led her to search for the Roswell remains and the Crystal Skull of Akator.
Agents from the Committee for State Security had encountered Indiana Jones during his adventures:
- Irina Spalko
- Igor Barkov
- Elvira Kandinsky
- Several other agents, whose identities were redacted in a memo from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation
In his journal, Jones believed that Antonin Dovchenko may have also been an operative from the Committee for State Security. In his last entry before losing the journal, Jones noted that he feared that the Committee for State Security and other intelligence agencies were after his journal.
