"None shall survive my wrath!"
―Kong Tien[src]

Kong Tien was an ancient and malevolent Chinese demon who inhabited the Netherworld.

Worshiped by Marshal Kai Ti Chang and his Black Dragon Triad, she was, as described by Kai, the Master of the Endless Darkness and the Supreme Lord of the Shadow Beyond the Stars. A temple was constructed beneath the Black Dragon Fortress on Peng Lai Island, where ritual sacrifices were occasionally performed to her. Deceased Triad fighters possessed by evil spirits also inhabited the temple.

The Heart of the Dragon was an artifact of hers that could control the will of men.

Biography[]

In ancient times, the Heart of the Dragon was used by Emperor Qin Shi Huang and buried by him.[1]

In 1935, Kong Tien was summoned by Kai during his attempt to sacrifice Mei Ying, due to her betrayal. He used the power of Kong Tien to power the Mirror of Dreams. Indiana Jones intervened and drove Kai and his men away. Kong Tien nonetheless possessed Mei Ying, transforming her into a fearsome yet beautiful, with feathered wings, long fingernails, and glowing eyes. She then transformed the chamber into a hellish Netherworld, and proceeded to attack Indy with bolts of lightning, balls of energy, and Evil spirits that attacked him as soon as they were summoned. Using the Pa Cheng, the demon destroyer, Indy fended off the spirits and destroyed three magical Orbs that were powering Kong Tien. The Orbs resembled large black pearls similar to the Heart of the Dragon and they were being cultivated by black dragons. The destruction of these three orbs caused the demonic deity to be banished back to hell, freeing Mei Ying in the process.[1]

Legacy[]

Even after her banishment, her power was still present as the Mirror of Dreams revealed traps and paths within the Emperor's Tomb. As Indiana Jones tired to escape the Black Pagoda, the Heart possessed him and prevented him from leaving with it. Kai showed up and took the Heart proclaiming "only a true servant of Kong Tien can wield its awesome power!" He then used the Heart to bring some Terracotta Statues to life and summon a large red Dragon outside. Indy used the Pa Cheng on the Heart and Kai, breaking the spell and bring forth the souls of the Emperor's victims who took Kai further down into the Netherworld with the Dragon.[1]
